Religion and Politics.

This post has absolute NOTHING to do with bikes. Just, two other things I feel very strongly about, politics and religion, if you don't like reading about those, you might want to move on. Maybe you know this about me, maybe you don't, but I'm a both a very religious (Christian) and political (Liberal) person. This article sent me through the roof today.

I subsequently sent the following email to the author.

(Update: Of course I don't expect someone like this to make any reasonable reply or even think twice about it [or probably even read her email], this person is clearly not thoughtful. But I can't stand watching the Right Wing destroy both my religion and my country without at least speaking up from time to time. And seriously, I'll write about bikes next time, lots and lots of bikes...)

Ms. Folger,

How dare you self-righteously threaten people in the name of God in order to sway them to your political viewpoint? How about a rant regarding the neo-conservative viewpoint on capital punishment, the Iraq war, or seemingly ceaseless genocide in Darfur; and the neo-conservative socioeconomic and foreign policies which directly lead to the needless suffering and death of tens and hundreds of thousands? Yet you dare to quote The Book regarding taking life? Blessed are the Peacemakers ma'am. Your Party has both directly and indirectly caused the needless war-time deaths of hundreds of thousands. Yet in vain you evoke the name of The Lord against your political opponent for his stance on abortion?

It is not yours but The Lord's to judge. Your espoused viewpoint threatens both my religion and my country, and as a Christian and a patriot, I am outraged and sickened by your willful misrepresentation of scripture to further your personal political agenda. Your piece is comparable to the teachings of the Pharasies. They also missed the true message of Christ because they were so caught up it their egotistical adherence to their self-righteous, human-filtered interpretation of The Law.

Ending the Iraq war and trying to create socioeconomic justice (i.e. clothing and feeding the 'least'), these are the liberal and Christian ideals you are ignoring to focus on vague social issues, which have incredibly emotionally polarizing positions that are practically vague in term of their ultimate effect on society. Do you truly wish to end abortion, or do you only wish to use it as a political instrument? Truly ending abortion is much greater and more complex than your embittered and unreasoned stance on Roe V. Wade.

I'll see to the mote in my own eye Ma'am, I certainly don't need your kind to decry it.
